What you need, BirdTune has

Image ID
Take a photo of the bird and BirdTune reads its field marks for you. Works on your old photos too.

Sound ID
Hold up your phone for ten seconds of song. You get ranked matches with confidence scores, not one blind guess.

Feather ID
Found a feather on the path? Lay it flat, photograph it, and BirdTune narrows it down by pattern, barring and shape.

Guide ID
Sometimes the bird is gone before you can react. Describe the size, colour and behaviour and BirdTune builds a shortlist from that.

Bird Trainer
Short drills that teach you what to look and listen for. Over time you start naming birds before you reach for the phone.

Life list
Every bird you identify is filed with the date, the place, your photo or recording and your notes. It reads like a birding journal, not a score.

Offline packs
Download the species you need before you leave. Calls, photos and your life list all open with no signal at all.

Birds worldwide
Browse the world's birds by family, region or country. Useful long before a trip, not just during one.

Migration & rarities
See what is moving through your area this month and which sightings count as rare. Good days to get out are easy to spot.

Does BirdTune work without internet?
Identification itself needs a connection, matching a photo or recording against the species database happens server-side. But download a regional pack before you set out and your life list, saved recordings and species pages all stay open with no signal. Anything you capture off grid, a photo or a recording, queues up and identifies itself the moment you reconnect. A day without signal never costs you a sighting, you just get the result a little later.
How accurate is sound identification?
Accuracy follows recording quality. A close, clean song usually returns one confident match. Wind, traffic or several birds at once return a ranked shortlist with confidence scores instead of a single guess, so the final call stays with you.
Can BirdTune identify a bird from a photo?
Yes. Photograph the bird and BirdTune reads its field marks (size, shape, colour and markings) then ranks the likely species. It works on photos already in your library too, so an old shot you never named is fair game.
Can BirdTune identify a bird from a feather?
Yes, feather ID is its own mode. Lay the feather flat on a plain surface and photograph it whole. BirdTune works from barring, shape and proportion toward the likely species, and often the position the feather held on the wing.
What if I never got a clear look?
Use Guide ID. Describe what you did catch (rough size, main colours, behaviour, where you were) and BirdTune builds a shortlist from that. It is the same ranked result you would get from a photo, just driven by your description.
What is Bird Trainer?
Short drills that teach you to recognise birds yourself. You practise field marks, calls and songs for the species around you, in sets that take a couple of minutes. Over time you start naming birds before you reach for the phone.
What does the life list store?
Every identification with its date, location, your photo or recording and your own notes. Entries roll up into family checklists, a month-by-month birding calendar and badges. The whole list exports as a file, so it stays yours.
Which regions does BirdTune cover?
The database spans more than 11,000 species worldwide, browsable by family, region and country. Regional packs let you download just the areas you bird in. Coverage depth varies by region and improves with each release.
Do my recordings and photos leave my phone?
Captures are sent for identification only, and only while you are online, nothing is identified on the device itself. Your life list belongs to you and can be exported or deleted whenever you like.
Is BirdTune free?
Identification, species pages and the life list are free to start. BirdTune Pro raises identification limits and adds offline regional packs and the Bird Trainer drills. The current price is always shown in the app before a trial begins.
Can I use it on a tablet, or on both platforms?
Yes. BirdTune runs on iPhone, iPad and Android phones and tablets. No sign in is required. You can identify birds and build your life list without an account. Your list lives on the device you use it on.
